The new Cat S365C and S385C Mobile Shears for scrap processing and demolition applications feature bolt-on piercing tips for thorough protection in critical wear areas, easy maintenance for optimal piercing performance, and field serviceability without welding. The shears also feature structural changes for extended durability.
The Cat bolt-on piercing tip design offers several advantages. The tip protects the moving jaw on both sides, effectively protecting the parent metal from wear as the moving jaw travels through the lower jaw. Additionally, the tip blades are fully reversible so that each blade provides two uses.
Common hand tools are all that is needed to reverse the blades, and the tip can be maintained without moving the knives in the jaw. The result is faster and easier maintenance. The Cat tip also uses identical parts for both sides of the jaw. This makes maintaining spare parts inventory simpler for both Cat dealers and customers.

New Leica PowerDigger 3D Provides Contractors Cable-Free Control Panel For 2D and 3D Applications
Leica Geosystems has released its next-generation 3D guidance system for excavating construction machines, Leica PowerDigger 3D. Leica PowerDigger 3D expands on the unique PowerSnap concept, which provides total flexibility and interchangeability of machine control products and of machines such as excavators, dozers, and graders.
Unique PowerSnap concept makes it easy to swap panels. Thanks to PowerSnap, machine guidance systems are no longer restricted to just one machine. PowerSnap allows users to swap panels between laser, slope, and 3D machine control completely seamlessly as the job demands.
PowerSnap also provides a cable-free system: data communication via infrared and induction for power supply offer contractors high reliability and system uptime. Leica Geosystems provides machine control solutions for excavators, dozers, and graders that can now use the XC-16 control panel with the corresponding 2D or 3D software.
PowerSnap also lets new customers manage their investment path as they move into machine control; offering complete backwards compatibility and affordable upgrade paths from traditional laser/slope control – all the way to 3D.

Heavy Equipment Shows Off at Bauma 2010 by Dunking Baskets and Making Snack Food
Heavy equipment manufacturers are always trying to prove the flexibility and user-friendliness of their new models. It appears that digging holes and picking up heavy loads isn't enough anymore. To make a big impression, heavy equipment now plays basketball and prepares tasty snacks.
The Digger Construction Equipment Blog reports on unique equipment demos at the 2010 Bauma International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery held recently in Munich, Germany.

Cat 336D L Hydraulic Excavator Delivers Expanded Versatility and High Productivity
The Caterpillar homepage features details on the Cat 336D L Hydraulic Excavator.
According to Caterpillar, the 336D L features greater performance, flexibility and versatility compared to the C-Series model. A new, spacious cab and new styling also set the D-Series apart from previous machines. And additional guarding for demolition applications helps ensure reliability and durability in demanding tasks.
The 336D L has more engine power and hydraulic pressure than the C-Series model. The result is increased breakout force and greater lift force, which create faster cycle times and superior productivity. The heavy lift circuit is now standard on D-Series models. At the touch of a switch, heavy lift will boost hydraulic pressure for increased lift performance.

John Deere Power Systems Receives EPA and EU Interim Tier 4/Stage III B Certifications for Off-Highway
John Deere Power Systems recently announced that their PowerTech PVX 9.0L and PowerTech PSX 9.0L models are the first of their off-highway 56 kW (75 hp) and above engines to be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and European Union (EU) as compliant with the Interim Tier 4 and Stage III B regulations.
"The EPA and EU certifications of our 9.0L engines are tremendous milestones for JDPS, and demonstrate our commitment to the environment. The timing of the certification — and being one of the first manufacturers to certify Interim Tier 4/Stage III B engines — reinforces John Deere's leadership in the off-highway engine market," said Doug Laudick, product planning manager for JDPS. "We believe our chosen technology path provides the best value for Interim Tier 4/Stage III B, and the certifications are proof that our emission reduction technologies are paying off for the environment and our customers."
