Terex Corporation has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its mining business to Bucyrus International Inc. for $1.3 billion in cash.
According to Terex, the products to be divested by Terex in the transaction include hydraulic mining excavators, electric drive mining trucks, track and rotary blasthole drills, and the highwall miner, as well as the related parts and aftermarket service businesses, including the company-owned distribution locations. The transaction, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2010.
“This transaction accelerates the transformation of Terex Corporation as we move from a Construction and Mining Equipment Company to a Machinery and Industrial Products business,” said Ronald M. DeFeo, Terex Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Going forward, we will focus on products and services where we can maintain and build superior customer propositions with high returns on capital for our owners. The current environment plus this transaction provide an excellent opportunity to create value. We plan to execute the changes needed to make this happen.”

Equipment Trader iPhone Application Puts New and Used Farm and Construction Equipment in the Palm of the Hand
Equipment Trader has released an iPhone application. Equipment dealers in the Equipment Trader Dealer Network and more than 50,000 heavy equipment listings are now searchable from the palm of the hand. The free Equipment Trader application can be downloaded from the business section of the iTunes Store by searching the key phrase “Equipment Trader.”
“Buyers today demand immediate information. Our iPhone application allows anyone to shop for new or used equipment from anywhere at any time—whether it’s at the construction site or in the field,” said Equipment Trader Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Bondi.
The GPS-sensitive Equipment Trader iPhone app allows shoppers to quickly search more than 50,000 EquipmentTraderOnline.com listings in specific zip code or near their current location. Users first choose from 12 broad categories of equipment including Agriculture, Asphalt-Concrete, Earthmoving, and Grounds Care. They then select the type of equipment they seek from a sub-menu of hundreds of categories— from backhoes to skid steers to tractors, it’s all there.
The search tool also allows users to further refine their search by utilizing optional criteria such as manufacturer, new or used condition, and minimum and maximum prices. The user’s recent searches and equipment viewed are automatically saved to the “Recents” area.
Individual listings provide full equipment specs and descriptions as well as picture galleries and videos when available. When shoppers have found the equipment they’re looking for, they can save the individual listing to their Wish List, call or e-mail the seller, map out directions, or send the listing to a friend.
Equipment Trader will demonstrate the new application at the World of Concrete 2010 show in Las Vegas, Feb. 2 - 5, in Booth # N2448. Two lucky attendees will win an Apple iTouch. To enter to win, show attendees need only stop by the Equipment Trader booth and show the Equipment Trader application installed on their iPhone or iTouch.
