John Deere Upgrades Powerful 710J Backhoe With New Tier 3 Engine

John Deere has added a new PowerTech E 6068 Tier 3 engine to its 710J Backhoe, improving both emissions compliance and power.

"Deere's got the most powerful backhoe available at this size level, so contractors can step up to Tier 3 engines without sacrificing power, durability or lugging power," said Bob Tyler, product marketing manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry Division.

The 710J still provides the greatest dig depth in the industry — reaching up to 22 feet, 4 inches when extended. And now a PowerTech E 6068 Tier 3 engine that will come standard on 710J backhoes beginning in January will provide a slight increase in horsepower and the same heavy-duty six-cylinder torque as on the previous Tier 2 710Js.

The new 710Js feature net horsepower of 126 hp, compared to the 123 hp on the Tier 2 engines, along with a host of other improvements, Tyler said. For example, the high pressure common rail fuel system provides higher injection pressures, variable timing, and precise control of fuel injection, giving it highly efficient combustion.

"The increased combustion efficiency, power and torque results in higher low-speed torque and faster response, while the new ECU has twice the memory and five times the computing power of the previous engine," Tyler said. "Plus, the redesigned ECU is now located inside the cab and your in-depth diagnostics can be retrieved using the monitor's onboard diagnostics or Service Advisor."

Deere has also ensured that daily servicing duties are easy to accomplish.

"Servicing is all done on the same side and accessed from the ground," Tyler said. "You won't need to raise the boom and no tools are necessary to open and tilt the hood, which can be tilted to 90 degrees if needed."

In addition, exterior upgrades to the 710J include a new extended grill frame that comes standard and a side louver that improves airflow to the engine.

Case Construction Equipment Releases Case-branded Hydraulic Quick Coupler

Case Construction Equipment has released a Case-branded hydraulic quick coupler for its wheel loaders. The new coupler maintains compatibility with current buckets and attachments. It is now available through Case dealers as a factory-installed option or as a dealer installation to retrofit machines in the field.

The hydraulic coupler is available for use on Case 521E, 621E, 721E and 821E (pictured above) wheel loaders and all configurations of those wheel loader models.

Operators will benefit from the Case hydraulic coupler while working on jobs that require the use of multiple attachments. Those doing road and bridge work will find switching from buckets for material handling to brooms for cleanup is quick and easy.

Switching from forks to transport pipe to a boom to position a manhole and back to a bucket for backfilling will speed productivity on sewer and water projects. All these attachment changes can be done easily from the seat of the cab.

Bobcat Introduces New Line Of Heavy-Duty Snow Blades

Bobcat Company recently introduced a new line of heavy-duty snow blades that provides snow-removal operators with a long-lasting tool that helps increase productivity. Primary features of these attachments include blade oscillation, a trip edge and a box-style mainframe.

Bobcat heavy-duty snow blades are available in 86-, 96- and 108-inch models. These snow blades are approved for use on Bobcat S130 to S330 skid-steer loaders, T140 to T320 compact track loaders, V417 VersaHandler telescopic tool carrier, and two Bobcat exclusives - the A300 all-wheel steer loader and Toolcat(TM) utility work machines.

A double-action cylinder angles the blade 30 degrees to the left or right. Angling the blade is controlled from the cab by a fingertip control, which allows the operator to adjust the blade without removing hands from the loader steering levers. The blade oscillates five degrees to keep in contact with the surface, preventing the need for multiple passes to clear snow.

Damage to snow blade components is prevented by the torsion spring trip edge should the snow blade come in contact with sections of raised concrete on sidewalks or other obstructions.
